A Wrinkle in Time is one of the most significant novels of our time. This fabulous, ground-breaking science-fiction and fantasy story is the first of five in the Time Quintet series about the Murry family.
A Wind in the Door—When Charles Wallace falls ill, Meg, Calvin, and their teacher, Mr. Jenkins, must travel inside C.W. to make him well, and save the universe from the evil Echthros.
A Swiftly Tilting Planet—The Murry and O’Keefe families enlist the help of the unicorn, Gaudior, to save the world from imminent nuclear war.
Many Waters—Meg Murry, now in college, time travels with her twin brothers, Sandy and Dennys, to a desert oasis that is embroiled in war.
An Acceptable Time—While spending time with her grandparents, Alex and Kate Murry, Polly O’Keefe wanders into a time 3,000 years before her own.

I am disappointed because your description clearly states that this was a hard cover book set. There was no picture for me to enlarge to check out before purchasing. I wanted to give these to my daughter for her 30th birthday because one of the few memories she has of her father from her childhood is of him reading A Wrinkle in Time and A Swiftly Tilting Planet to her and her brother. I wanted her to be able to do the same for her own child now that she is a parent so I really wanted her to have the hard cover books. Then she could pass them down to him later in life. Well, that isn’t going to happen because these are paperback books, and they are in a pasteboard case. NOT the deal that was advertised by any means.

Ok - I love this series and hate to see it bashed by someone who doesn’t read well. Clearly this set states that it is paperback. Clearly it is a charming set of books, as it always was. Miss Kristin, I hope you pay more attention next time you buy your books!

This book is sci-fi without space ships. There are no super sized bugs, no deflector dishes, no empires.
Meg’s father disappeared while performing some experiment. Meg and her family now live in a small town, missing him terribly.
Meg, a typical and awkward 14 year old girl, struggles with life as a result.
With the help of three wonderful “ladies,” she and her brother and boyfriend will journey to rescue her father.
And it all started with “It was a dark and stormy night…”

It is so hard to find these books, that I read as a teenager in the eighties! I am glad to have them to share with my children, as richly as Madeleine L’Engle develops the timeless, important themes of courage, steadfastness, universal love, and the nature of good and evil.

Revisiting this series was great - she is a great writer, understanding the subtle nuances of human nature and mixing sci-fi with something more that tugs at the heart. I read this first when I was in 6th grade and actually ordered these new ones for my 8-year old daughter. I will likely purchase the other books she has written. Great read!
